- Radiation Oncology Advanced Clinical Fellowship
Description
Opportunities are available across virtually all major radiation oncology disease sites, including pediatric radiation oncology. The anticipated duration of the program is 12 months.
During this program, selected candidates will rapidly develop the skills necessary to perform comprehensive, hands-on clinical activities, including history-taking, physical examination, clinical decision-making, treatment planning, and treatment plan evaluation.
The program also includes a research component, accounting for approximately 20% of the trainee’s time, during which clinically relevant research topics will be pursued. It is anticipated that this work will result in a minimum of two manuscripts, as well as two abstracts and/or posters presented at national or international meetings.
Advanced Fellows will work closely with the radiation oncology residency program, enhancing resident education without detracting from their clinical opportunities. Fellows will also have opportunities to collaborate with research fellows, participate in research projects, and engage with medical students.
Clinical responsibilities will be assigned to specific attending physicians based on the fellow’s selected specialty areas. It is generally recommended that fellows work with at least two attending physicians during the 12-month period, but ideally no more than four. In exceptional cases, a full 12-month rotation with a single faculty member may be considered based on the trainee’s specific training goals and requests.
In addition to clinical and research activities, fellows will have access to didactic lectures, including radiotherapy physics lectures offered to physics residents and radiation biology lectures provided to radiation oncology residents. Attendance at multidisciplinary tumor boards, morning huddles, chart rounds, and other routine departmental conferences is expected.
Most of the work will be conducted in person, with limited remote opportunities available. The clinical workday is expected to be approximately 8–10 hours. There are no major call responsibilities associated with this position.
A modest stipend will be available to support academic activities, including meeting attendance, poster and abstract presentations, and manuscript publication.
Requirements
Completion of a radiation oncology residency program, with board certification, eligibility for board certification, or an equivalent qualification.
